Assignments to be completed between now and 5/31/09
1. Assignments will be emailed to Ravi and Uday uncles as they are completed - no waiting for meetings.
2. Complete sections of the Common application form and mail them as you finish each section. You already have elements of sections completed ( activity sheet / some essay elements etc). The goal is to have a completed common app by May 31st. We will review your submissions and provide feedback.
3. We would also like you to think about next year. We need some ideas on how we can improve the program - one thought was that we will have individual one hour sessions with us so that we can review documents and provide feedback
4. We also need a way to stay in touch during the summer months to ensure that each of you is making progress toward a completed application.

1. Come prepared to discuss your college visit plans and how you are preparing for it.
2. Also come up with some ideas for your summer plans. We can try to get creative with them. A few of you you have been communicating with me regarding your summer plans, and that's great. Please let me know what else we need to do for you.
3. Please email me the latest version of your activity sheets and your writings on essays so far, indicate your graduation date on the pages. I want to pick one or two junior's submissions and review them.
4. We would also like you to think about next year. We need some ideas on how we can improve the program.

1. Come prepared to discuss your college visit plans and how you are preparing for it.
2. Also come up with some ideas for your summer plans. We can try to get creative with them.
3. Pick a really good college essay from the web and lets discuss it.
4. Make sure that you have completed tasks that you promised to complete last month.
5. I will post the location of the meeting shortly - if I can get a library room, we will use it.

1. Activity Worksheet Completed in detail: Make sure that you list ALL of your activities at this time, no matter how insignificant you may think it is. Make sure that you list Quantitative accomplishments. Instead of " I helped coordinate the India day festival." try this: "Coordinated a team of 10 students for a major India festival, attended by over 500 people from the community. managed a budget of over $2500." OR "Handled PR for the Annual India Day festival. Contacted all 10 major media outlets (print, radio and TV) in our market. Created major exposure for the school. Attendance exceeded all previous records in the festival's 10 year history."
2. Complete the first 7 Essay brainstorming sections (minimum first 3 sections) from "Role Models" to "Characters from fiction whom you'd like to meet". Don't have one word answers here. For Role Models - Barrack Obama is not sufficient. You need to have points on why , how he has affected you, get some more details documented. If you have a lot more to say, use a google doc ( if you need help, pl call me), print it out and staple it to the book.
Next session, we will divide into groups of three and review the completed assignments.
